CRCID has set aside $200,000 CDN for Water for Humanity (WFH), and will keep the funds available to us until March 2009. We are therefore relying heavily on Rotary Clubs, District Grants and RI Grants to help us reach our target of $242,000. The amazing news is that we are already very close to reaching that goal!
Successful fund raising would mean a combined total of $442,000 from Canadian sources alone, plus the potential generous donation of GE/Zenon’s filtration plant. Host Rotary Clubs, host governments, and private contractors will also be making contributions in addition to this total.
There were two major fund raisers in 2007 that were very successful. In April, the Rotary Clubs of Oakville Trafalgar (RCOT) and Oakville North (RCON) put on “The Best Of Broadway” show at The Oakville Centre. Also that month, six Clubs in District 7070 had a fabulous “African Cultural Night” which raised over $30,000 for WFH. These funds are part of the funds designated for the Ghana 2 project in the Ashanti region. The same six Clubs have applied for $5,000 each for DDF funds from District 7070 to match the $30,000 they raised. Numerous other Rotary Clubs, Interact Clubs and individual donors have also contributed.
The four Oakville Rotary Clubs have already contributed $6,250 each, and have pledged the same for this Rotary year. This $50,000 has been instrumental “seed” money in initiating each of the four projects. Of the $50,000, Ghana 1 will receive $15,000; Ghana 2 will get $10,000; Bolivia 1 receives $5,000; and Bolivia 2 will receive the balance of $20,000.
We have received confirmation from District 7080 of $5,000 in DDF for Ghana 2, and are waiting to hear about $2,500 US for Bolivia 1 before we are able to proceed.
