Where We're At
Here is an update on where we are today:

Our first project was so successful that we were encouraged by CRCID to apply for a 3
year program grant which we have just been notified was approved. We now have the
ability to draw on a budget of $250,000  based on a 1:1 matched funding formula. i.e.
for every dollar we raise from any source including matched funding from Rotary, we
will receive a dollar from CRCID (up to $250,000).

Our partner, Zenon Environmental -- which was recently purchased by GE -- will
donate up to 2 more water filtration plants for the project. Our 5 local Rotary Clubs
have already pledged $50,000.

Since we recognize that this project has now grown beyond our own capacity, we are
reaching out to other Rotary Clubs and Districts to get involved.  Our committee is in
the midst of searching for a candidate site(s) for the next installation from a list of
targeted countries that we were provided by CRCID.

They include, but are not restricted to: Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Senegal, Ethiopia,
Tanzania, Mozambique, Bangladesh, Bolivia and Honduras. Nor are we restricted to
the type of water management solution either. Our project mandate includes
boreholes, rain/fog harvesting and sand filters.

A few possible sites that we are looking at now in Ghana are teaming up with the
Rotary Club of Cornwall in their Sustainable Villages Project in the Ashanti District
under a much larger 3-H Grant and an initiative by the Rotary Club of Tema and the
Rotary Club of Accra-West to construct a water treatment facility in the Volta Region in
the north.

The project in Tzaneen, South Africa started with a commitment of $50,000. We raised
a total of $125,000 which included all the available match funding. When you factor in
Zenon's contribution and the in-kind donations of suppliers and contractors in South
Africa, we estimated the total value to be $750,000.

Think of what we can do now !

Our committee is in place and focused. We will provide all of the planning, budgeting,
site selection, logistics support, communications and liaison with the Rotary Clubs
and all required levels of government in the host countries.

We are welcoming the participation of other Rotary Clubs from across Canada to help
make this another success. So far, we have heard from Clubs in Cornwall, Ingersoll,
Ottawa, Montreal, Moncton and Shediac. Based on our last experience, we will be able
to match every dollar you contribute and leverage them a step or two beyond that.
Mission Statement:
Our mandate is to work closely with Rotarians and corporate partners
to provide and fund, where possible, clean water delivery solutions for
people in need throughout the world.
